President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Samoei Ruto attended the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Presidential Roundtable held at Strathmore University. Representatives from the different clusters had a chance to address the President on issues affecting SMEs across agro-
processing, aquaculture, construction, livestock, textile and trade value chains. Some of the issues brought up included lack of access to affordable finance, high taxation and need for capacity building. The President acknowledged that the government has not sufficiently
addressed the issues affecting SMEs yet they provide 75% of employment in the country. He directed the Cabinet Secretary for Energy to review electricity costs for SMEs with a view to reduce the costs and he insisted on the necessity for a follow up session in two months’ time. #SMEconference2018 -
